The Andrej Marušič Institute (UP IAM) is the only research institute at University of Primorska. In 1999 it was registered as an independent public research institute under the name of Primorska Institute of Natural and Technical Sciences Koper (UP PINT). As of 10 November 2011, UP PINT was renamed the Andrej Marušič Institute.

Since its beginnings, UP IAM has been a cornerstone in the development of natural sciences and technology at the University of Primorska. Since 2006, it has also been closely cooperating with the Faculty of Mathematics, Natural Sciences and Information Technologies (UP Famnit), together representing a strategically important field for broader progress.

A distinctive feature of the institute is its interdisciplinary research excellence. By connecting natural sciences, technology, social sciences, and the humanities, UP IAM transcends the traditional boundaries between fundamental fields of human knowledge.
