Andrej Marušič Institute (UP IAM) is the only research institute operating within the University of Primorska (UP). Since its establishment, it has been a cornerstone in the development of the fields of Natural Sciences and Technology at the University of Primorska. Since 2006, in close cooperation with the Faculty of Mathematics, Natural Sciences and Information Technologies (UP FAMNIT), national, international, and applied projects have been carried out, demonstrating strong connections with the industry and research result users.

The institute is distinguished by scientific excellence, interdisciplinarity, international integration, strong ties with the local economy, and close cooperation with UP FAMNIT, enabling the transfer of knowledge through educational activities.

Research work is organized into five research and development units:

• Department of Mathematics (OM)
• Department of Information Sciences and Technologies (DIST)
• Centre of Excellence for Research and Innovation in the Field of Renewable Materials and Healthy Living Environments (InnoRenew CoE)
• Department of Technology (OT)
• Department of Health Studies (OPZ)

And three centres:

• Slovene Centre for Suicide Research (SCSR)
• Centre for Application Design and Development (CORA)
• Centre for Cooperation with Industry (CSI)
